Intellect based Luke focused on mobility and card draw, with Fieldwork to make him more versatile. Since he can move around so much with the gate, pathfinder and shortcuts and go anywhere, he should be able to pop by a clue location for the fieldwork buff.

Upgrades are Pathfinder and whatever you feel like. I have really liked using Shortcut (2) in combination with the gates. You can deal with enemies by luring them into location with a gate and a shortcut (2), then shortcut them through the gate, leaving them on the other side by going to your happy dream realm. This works even with elite enemies, and is especially good for buying you time from hunter enemies.

The Arcane Initiate helps you draw your spells, and Rook draws your other pieces for you like fieldwork, mag glasses or the key.

Dayana works great in this deck, of course.

Playing Arcane Initiate + Mr. "Rook", why do you think of eventually replacing Crack the Case by Astounding Revelation?

Astounding Revelation is probably a good inclusion instead of Open Gate if you want to skip that one. Crack the case is one of the best economy cards in the game and is easy to trigger, so I don't think I would replace it. It would probably work really well since rook digs deep and initiate digs often, and since we are using intellect to investigate the icon doesn't hurt.

Shortcut lets other investigators trigger the free move action, but it doesn't allow moving enemies (and enemies don't count locations with Open Gate as connected) :)

I think Dio meant, you can move yourself with the Shortcut ability and take all enemies in your threat area with you. ( -> no Attack of Opportunity)
And as the enemies are in your threat area, they should move with you through the Open Gate, right? I am actually not sure about it though.. But once on the other side, just use the Gate Box to disengage everyone (even the ones already parked there!) and return back to where you're needed.
