She's brute force, wading into enemies and sucking up the pain as she goes.

This deck went successfully through Edge of the Earth with Lily Chen (fighting), Norman Withers (clueing) and Monterey Jack (clueing, evading, running around the map like a Tasmanian Devil).

I see lots of people saying Daniela's broken because of all the amazing XP Guardian cards she can't get. "This 3XP Guardian card is made for Daniela," is a common refrain. But that's the wrong way to go about because, well, she isn't an XP Guardian. Looking at those cards with a Daniela context is only going to cause pain.

You can instead look at all those lovely Red cards that enable her to soak things up. Her building requirements lead to many turns being fun puzzles, as you work out how to inflict maximum damage with your card-play.

Fun cards

  • Blood Will Have Blood let's you draw like crazy and get perilously close to death
  • Fortunately, Earthly Serenity can heal most of it with one well-timed, Bangle of Jinxes-powered test. The Thermos will do fine until you get your XP engine.
  • "Get behind me!" is wonderful when played for a turn of big hits. Managing the hits is a great puzzle. SHould you just suck them up? Or #Dodge? Or Aquinnah their damage elsewhere? Or Flesh Ward the pain away? Clearing a location of enemies purely by card manipulation (no tests) is very rewarding.
  • The Mechanic's Wrench is a great weapon (even if it's an item). I enjoyed the theme of Daniela taunting an enemy with the wrench only to wallop it back, harder, later.

I ran this deck very low on skills, which was mostly fine: Combat is your main stat, and you're up at 5,6,7,8 pretty easily very often. I think I packed too much soak in the deck; for example, I never defeated a Cherished Keepsake. I could prob have ditched those and Relic Hunter for a few more skills.

Conclusion? She's great, and don't fall into the trap of thinking that because she starts blue, she'd be better if she could take all the XP Guardian cards. The red cards are plenty for a great puzzle.
