Big piles of goo everywhere. A real fire-and-brimstone sort of partner. And now he knew rather too much. This was not what he had envisioned when he signed up all those years ago. Yet, it had a certain amount of poetic elegance. Roland sighed heavily and lifted his regulation sledgehammer. It was time to go to work.
I played this deck for The Blob That Ate Everything Else at Gencon 2023. The goal was to maximize the possibility of a full-strength Enchanted Sledgehammer with extra actions as needed from Riot Whistle, Safeguard, and Directive: Red Tape. The big hammer swing neatly sidesteps the restriction on Directive: Due Diligence.
It played slightly clunky and slow to set up in its one game, but was very fun. I did not feel very penalized by the restrictions. It helped that I ended up next to Father Mateo, so we knew the Hammer would not miss. We lost the overall epic multiplayer game, but I think we contributed our fair share of damage in the end before we doomed out.
What changes would I make? (Aside from not bringing a melee weapon to a blob fight.) Upgrading some combination of Vicious Blow, Preposterous Sketches, and Cryptic Writings would have been good. Another weakness probably would have been better than the 2 damage. Some more encounter protection like another Forewarned or Take the Initiative could have helped, perhaps in place of Overpower, which I didn't feel I needed.
I didn't use Due Diligence, outside of one Evasion attempt, but I also wouldn't have made use of the other Directive options. I wanted to use the parallel back for Winging It, Kicking the Hornet's Next, and the like, but they are sadly incompatible with the big Sledgehammer, which I wanted too much for reasons of FUN.
