Patrice Hathaway 's Fickle Fortune | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1.0 |
rynocerous · 9
Do you like cards draw? Do you hate not having enough resources? Here's a deck for you! Patrice's ability will naturally draw you all the cards you need. Using low cost cards and Dark Horse you can be a consistant force with something to do every turn.
Early Patrice looks to utilize Short Supply to load up her graveyard with recurable events and items and possibly remove her weakness from the equation.
Mid/Late game Patrice aims to transition into Dark Horse cards to consistently work well with little to no resources. She'll want to take Fickle Fortune to heal all her fellow investigators an absurd amount, with great consistency thanks to card draw and graveyeard recursion. Add Soul Sanctification to get a near endless +2/+4 to ANY SKILL CHECK. All other upgrades focus on making sure Patrice has the resources she needs - only when she needs them - and making sure every card she draws does something on the turn she draws it.
Investigate: 8 | Fight: 7 | Treachery:9 | Support: 8 | Consistency: 8 | Draw: 10 | Resources: 7
OVERVIEW / TL:DR
Mulligan: Look for Patrice's Violin -> Madame Labranche -> Fire Axe/ Mariner's Compass to get your assets out early, since you draw cards every turn aim to set up on turn 1 using your starting resources.
Prioritize asset plays based on the situation. Play Fire Axe if you are needed to help fight. Play Mariner's Compass if you are needed to help investigate. Play Profane Idol/Improvised Shield from the graveyard to help soak Damage and Horror as needed. Play Resourcesful/Scrounge for supplies to draw cards discarded by Short Supply, or cards you were unable to play on previous turns. Play Emergency Cash and Forbidden Knowledge to help pay for expensize cards like Dark Horse and Mariner's Compass.
GAMEPLAY Since Patrice draws 5 new cards per turn she wants to use as many cards as she can each turn to maximize value. She can rely on cards to pitch test icons to help her (or allies) succeed at checks without the concern of losing cards (you'll draw more). Heavy (?) skill cards comprise a significant portion of her deck for this reason. Last Chance, Promise of Power, Prophesy, Last Chance, Unexpected Courage.
Patrice wants to gain Resources during her turn with Emergency Cash, Madame Labranche, and Forbidden Knowledge in order to play Fire Axe, Mariner's Compass, and Dark Horse. Once they've been played, she can use the resources to pump into Fire Axe and Mariner's compass.

UPGRADES
With upgrades Patrice can really begin to shine.
NOTABLE CARDS:
Fickle Fortune(3) What card! Damage/Horror become almost trivial, and if you need more time instead you can decide to set the doom back. This card is pulled significantly more often in Patrice due to her card draw and can be recurred with Resourceful. This card should be a top priority most of the time.
Soul Sanctification(6) This card is a large investment and should only be taken if you have previously upgraded into 1 or 2 copies of Fickle Fortune. However, once you have, this card becomes a MASSIVE boon. One draw of Fickle Fortune can get you up to 24...yes 24! charges on Soul Sanctification, this could very well say: Cast Fickle fortune, Patrice gets +2 or +4 to any future skill check if she wishes.
Protective Incantation(1) what an underrated card, and for 1 XP, removing a -4 or -5 can be comparable to removing a second autofail in many campaigns when investigators can consistently make it to +3. This card is excellent in this particular deck. Patrice's Violin, Madame Labranche, and Forbidden Knowledge allow Patrice to continue to work at 0 resources until the last moment when she can produce a single resource to pay the tax.
Ample Supplies(1) An excellent upgrade if you find that you are often in need of resources to play your important cards. Notably better than Emergency Cash because it can be saved to be used when necessary. This card pairs nicely with Patrice because you'll discard pretty much every turn. Be careful not to store TOO many supplies otherwise you may have a hard time getting back to 0 resources. Cards like Scapper (especially upgraded) can remove this downside.
Dark Horse(5) is such a huge jump from Dark Horse it's possibly not even worth running the base version in the deck. Patrice has relatively low Base Stats, so staying at 0 resources can be a huge help, it's an important part of the deck, and this upgrade makes it available 100% of the time without the pesky 3 resource cost. However, it's not a top priority due to other more important cards.
