This deck is part of my "One for All" series, which utilizes nearly every card in my collection to give each investigator a specialized starting template of 17ish cards that can be expanded to quickly create a functional, campaign-ready deck. If you'd like more info on the system just type "One for All" in the decklist search, and find one of the Chapter 1 core set investigators (or go here: https://arkhamdb.com/decklist/view/65256/one-for-all-roland-one-collection-for-every-investigator-2.0). They each have a full description.

Investigator Specific Tips

Pick a card, any card! This master of disappearing and reappearing things has all sorts of tricks up his sleeve. Dexter can cycle out old assets that have become dangerous or just outlived their usefulness, granting a nifty discount and saving precious actions in the process. This gives him a big advantage over his mystical colleagues when dealing with enemies. Attacks of opportunity should rarely be a problem. You may have also noticed that nice big willpower hiding under his hat! Few better spellslingers exist among Arkham's more magical inhabitants. Don't sleep on his signature #showmanship either; it can give a wide range of cards that extra bit of razzle dazzle they need to please a crowd.

Don't let this magician run out of props though, or it could be curtains for you! His play style can necessitate a tremendous amount of card draw and resource generation, so careful consideration should be given to your deck composition; ensuring Dexter doesn't lose his tempo. Needless to say, encounter cards that discard from your hand or (worse!) play area can have a bigger impact on your game plan; so be ready with cancels, fodder, or just even more cards.

Some archetypes that work well for this template:

  • The Magician - Our boy Dex loves assets, but which does he love best? Naturally, spells that use his big ol' brain are easy marks, but anything with limited uses or persistent negative effects can easily be discarded when they no longer serve you. Cheap 1 and 2 cost assets also go well with his discount. Playing your cards without spending actions OR resources is amazing value! Just be sure to supplement your desired level of asset cycling with sufficient card draw and resource generation.

  • Battlemage - Being able to reactively deploy any asset that helps you fight precisely when you need it gives Dexter a natural advantage in combat. As long as you already have something in play that you're willing to part with, you can solve even the beefiest enemies with all your available actions going to fight tests. While spells give you the flexibility to evade on demand, even weapons become very viable in the hands of this magic man, especially with the use of his signature: #showmanship. You may still want some other cards to boost your combat stat, however!

  • Flex - If you're willing to part with a few tools from your combat utility belt, you can also make a fine flex. Getting clues the mystic way (using willpower) or even just shining your trusty #flashlight around makes Dex the Flex highly adaptable: able to keep assets in hand until he's ready to reap their maximum reward. For this reason, I prefer variety over consistency when choosing cards here.

  • Cursed - Included in Dexter's very own expansion is the bless/curse suite of cards. Curse in particular is very relevant to both his primary and secondary classes of cards. The majority of related assets tend to focus on quickly generating curses for some benefit, mitigating the tokens, or most interestingly; to alchemize drawn curses into some positive effect. His real strength here lies in being able to quickly pivot focus from generating the tokens to mitigating or utilizing them simply by swapping a few assets out.
