Standard Jim setup for Expert mode. Leo de Luca because it's solo mode with a Dunwich investigator and the actions are too good to pass up, standard spells for clues and combat, a few skill cards which are great on the higher difficulties.

Moonlight Rituall is there for when we get Blood Pact (asap). The combo is just too good with blood pact meaning extremely productive turns at the cost of one action and one card. Grotesque Statue as a follow up allows us to be competent in nearly everything save checks, which allows us to be very flexible.

Attempting some Alyssa Graham to see how useful predicting the encounter deck is. May consider this pretty vital for certain scenarios where a few or even a single critical card can vitally change how the game reacts.

Ditch Delve Too Deep at any point where you feel the weight of empty cards is overtaking your ability to keep up with the scenario.

This isn't an easy deck to pilot through Expert, but it's surprisingly sturdy.

Interesting! I would build Jim in a broadly similar way. I'm not crazy about the allies Jim has available in the Mystic class, so I think splashing for the best ally in the game is a strong choice.

Out of curiosity, why bother with the Manual Dexterity? I love skill cards, don't get me wrong, but I feel like you could just completely forget Agility as Jim. You could then run a second Ward of Protection and perhaps a single Hypnotic Gaze.

I feel like Perception might be fairly strong for Jim, too.

We already have enough ways to collect clues (by Delve Too Deep and Rite of Seeking) so perception is unneccessary, and Manual Dexterity is important for critical tests which might kill you or an enemy you cannot quite yet kill.

I actually removed Ward of Protection and Hypnotic Gaze from the previous iteration of this deck to include more of the aforementioned cards precisely because they weren't pulling their weight (Gaze in particular is far far too expensive for canceling a single attack and a low chance of damage)

Actually if you look at the reviews for Gaze you'll see I'm the one who said it wasn't very good! Running this deck was formative of that opinion

I think a single Manual Dexterity is a good include here. With grotesque statue out, it can really make for a clutch play when Jim needs to evade something.

I personally think Ward of Protection is a must due to some pretty annoying Dunwich cards (Beyond the Veil in particular, or just to block a painful Pushed into the Veil).

Beyond the Veil is only as threatening as you let it be, if you're not drawing through your deck at great speed (which indeed we are not) and you have a moderately high will it shouldn't be a great threat.

I've found that by and large just completing the scenario is a better salve for bad encounter cards than letting counters clutter your deck.

How crucial is Leo De Luca? Are you in danger of running out of time if you don't draw him?

Magnificate: not especially, but he's simply too good of a card to not have.
