Fry's Inconsistent Starter Tuneup (FIST)
Many folks have noticed that the starter decks as packaged in Core 2026 are very inconsistent, and in places even incoherent, due to including just a single copy of each class card that the investigator is allowed to take, rather than placing the class cards with investigators that are best equipped to make use of them. This series of decks (FIST) is intended to upgrade the starters by moving cards around to decks where they make more sense, while still allowing you to keep five decks built at all times (in case you want to take it to a pickup game night, etc.). These decks are not intended to be the strongest possible to build out of the box, but rather, they are intended to allow you to have five ready-to-play decks where you won't constantly be getting "why is this card in my deck" questions from new players.
Dexter Drake tuneup
As packaged, the Dexter starter includes many cards that operate off his relatively low stat, and just a single copy each of the two spells that operate off his massive stat. The key upgrades are grabbing the other two spell assets from Izzy, and passing most of the evasion tech to Trish.
Strategy
Mulligan for "For my next trick...", Cosmic Flame, and Second Sight. If you already have two of those three, look for Emergency Cache, Jim Culver, or Lucky Cigarette Case. The plan is simple: play a spell, use it. When you run out of charges, play one of your cheap Hand assets and use Dexter's ability to put your spell back in hand to reload it. Ideally you'd prefer to be leaning more on Investigating with Second Sight than Fighting with Cosmic Flame, but depending on the situation and party, you may need to do shift your ratio of fighting to clueing. If you're low on cash, it's not unreasonable to keep using an empty spell for a lesser effect, just watch out for those spooky tokens (/) that can discard your spell asset.
