William Yorick - Six Feet Under

The first card I wanted to build a deck around when Edge of the Earth first came out was Short Supply. Now, playing Short Supply with Yorick isn’t too innovative in and of itself. Where this deck really comes together is its clever solution to resource economy and its ability to consistently find pieces for high synergy levels. This deck is certainly more of a fighter/team soak role than anything else, but with Grete Wagner, "Look what I found!", and the rare extra clue usage of Ice PickYorick can also be used to find those last few clues for the group.

On Short Supply

Short Supply does two significant things for Yorick. The first is that it speeds his deck up tremendously. We are no longer waiting for things to hit the discard pile to get value out of his ability, that starts on turn 1 now. There are going to be very few instances now where his ability can’t trigger because there isn’t something in the discard pile to bring back. The second thing is that it gives us more options and provides a toolbox angle to work with. If we’re in need of heals or soak, we can grab Protective Gear or Medical Student now. If we are in need of more damage or clues, bringing back Ice Pick is the way to go and we are no longer depending on those cards to get in the bin organically throughout the game. Short Supply is putting nearly 36% of our deck in the discard pile after we have drawn our opener and will usually provide an array of options for us to recur.

Enter Synergy

If Short Supply brings the deck speed, options, and consistency, then Synergy ups the overall power level. Short Supply coupled with Yorick’s natural recursion and cards like Resourceful breathe some life into the Synergy mechanic because we are going to see a lot more of our deck than normally. This means we’ll be able to more consistently hit 4 or even 5 synergy, which is when the deck really sings. Of course, Bruiser provides 2 off-class icons while also providing great resource economy and the flexibility to up our stats in the late game. One of the best openings for the deck is a Turn 1 Bruiser + Weapon which leaves you with two or three resources on the following turn and of course the recurring resources on Bruiser. The best Synergy deck is one that works when you have less than 3 Synergy but turns it to 11 when you have 3+.
