Through the power of flashbacks, Mateo unleashes the power of his Codex !
-
This deck is my attempt to improve on Valentin1331's Codex Mateo Deck, which was released soon after The Scarlet Keys. Now, two expansions later, I believe it is possible to pull off the deck's combo much more consistently.
-
Please read the guide linked above first to understand what the deck is trying to do before reading this one. I will try not to reiterate points from the excellent original guide, and instead focus on the changes I made to the deck.
-
Memories of Another Life : The deck's most important new addition, which allows us to gather the combo pieces much faster.
-
The original had 1x The Codex of Ages and 2x Scavenging, in a 40 card deck. Here, with a 35 card deck, drawing any 2 of 1x Scavenging, 1x The Codex of Ages and 2x Memories of Another Life will find the two main combo pieces, because the latter can either fetch a 2nd Scavenging from your collection, or draw the codex using Research Librarian.
-
All you need to do is succeed at a skill test with Memories of Another Life commited, but since you're Father Mateo, it's not like the is going to ruin your day !
-
If the first card of the 4 mentioned above is Memories of Another Life, just keep it until you find another one to know which card you need to get with it.
-
If you already have your Scavenging and the Codex, Thorough Inquiry can help you find the Astral Mirror / Antiquary needed for the full combo. Past that, just use your imagination !
-
-
Olive McBride : Her upgrade is really valuable, since she tends to improve your odds of success rather than lower them like her level 0 counterpart, all the while revealing an extra token, which increases the odds of hitting an . She alone reveals as many tokens as the Olive McBride + Grotesque Statue combo from the original deck.
- Beware that Research Librarian (from Memories of Another Life) can remove it if you haven't purchased Charisma. If you need to do it, try and Sacrifice her beforehand : If you draw The Codex of Ages, you are now free to use Memories for anything else you want !
-
Close the Circle / Hyperphysical Shotcaster : Replace the suite of Spells from the original deck with cards that work better with Antiquary.
-
Close the Circle boosted by Antiquary provides with a way to investigate at really high skill values and trigger Scavenging without having to use the The Codex of Ages. Read the Signs also works for this purpose, and its upgrade pairs especially well with Olive McBride and the resources generated by your .
-
If you want a full Rainbow (), Sacred Covenant can get you the missing card, and Call for Backup is an additional payoff worth looking into.
-
Once empty, Sacrifice can discard this card for extra value.
-
Hyperphysical Shotcaster is a Relic that can be boosted and discounted by Antiquary, and an Item that can be fetched back using Scavenging. Empowered Configuration is really useful to compensate for Mateo's base 4 when without Antiquary, but feel free to customise the Hypercaster to your team's needs !

May 05, 2025Nevermind, Father Mateo has 5xp to start with, so this deck is in the threshold! |
Yeaaah happy to see some love for that old deck! I remember reading in the comment section that I should have made a Reddit post instead of a deck guide.
I'm happy to see that, years later, this deck update confirms my approach of making a deck guide for it!
I will link this deck in the original deck guide, as these are all great ideas! For the sake of it, I probably would have tried to keep the deck at a lower XP threshold by removing Scavenging + Versatile, Hyperphysical Shotcaster to be in the 29xp threshold!
