Intro

God dealt Gwyneth O'Toole a rough hand, but she's never let that hold her back. Life on the brink has given her a dangerous mixture of unflappable charm and desperate edge. If you're lucky, you'll merely end up the rube in one of her hundreds of cons, scams, schemes, and street races...and if you're unlucky, you'll find yourself on the other end of her arsenal of guns and blades, as the masked vigilante Stash comes to balance the scales of your life!

Deck Breakdown

Hey everyone! At long last, I am extremely pleased to introduce you to the final member of Eulogy's team, the fourth Arkham Champion and the gang's wisecracking muscle, Stash!

Her unique superpower allows her to reach into any gap–a pocket, a drawer, a sleeve, etc.–and access a personal pocket dimension packed with the weapons and supplies she has gathered during her superhero career. This makes her a walking weapons platform wielding every scale of firearm under the sun–a feeling this deck hopefully helps provide!

Stash's mask, the Wolf, is somewhat less central to her playstyle than you might expect after the previous three decks. It represents the element of surprise (in combat) and preparedness (the rest of the time) her pocket dimension provides, amping her two relevant stats for all the tests she plans to take in a given scenario.

The stash itself is actually represented by II Skids' ability, one of my all-time favorites in the entire game. By committing 0 resources to the fast trigger, Stash can reach into her pockets as a free action for a test that she is both guaranteed to succeed and is already 3 up on. She can then commit skills like Manual Dexterity and "Watch this!" to generate massive economy on the fly and, most importantly, trigger her Lucky Cigarette Cases to search huge chunks of her deck–her stash–for whatever weapons or gear she currently needs the most.

Once she's got what she needs in hand, she'll have no trouble quickdrawing it with "I'll take that!" or Sleight of Hand, getting the jump on her enemies. In combat she's a whirlwind of death, using Dirty Fighting and Hatchet Man to turn evasion into damage compression, and her actual guns provide a mixture of free actions, high compression, and overwhelming force.

Part of the fun of Stash, though, is that she grinds through equipment relentlessly–your version of the character could have more or less any set of weapons and gear stashed at any point in her story, so the suite I've chosen is plenty easy to swap out for something you like more.

In Action

Though she does pack a set of thieves' tools, Stash is undeniably the main fighter of the original Champions team, offering a strong counterpart to the three flexes she works alongside. Damage is the name of the game, and as the scenario increases in intensity so does Stash's ability to reach deeper and deeper into her stash, helping her blaze through ammo while always having another weapon in the wings ready to lock and load.

As for her nemesis weakness, that responsibility unsurprisingly falls to the Mob Enforcers. Between her father's old "friends", the money she's had to borrow, cheat for, or steal to keep up with her mother's medical bills, and her own resentment for the ways they prey on the city's downtrodden, Stash often finds herself at deadly loggerheads with the O'Bannions.

Conclusion

In essence, this deck distills most of my favorite aspects of the Rogue class into one system. Oversuccess, fast tests, the whole Dirty Fighting archetype and the way it makes combat feel utterly unique–it's good stuff, and I hope you enjoy playing Stash as much as I do!

And...that's it! When I started this series, years ago, these were the four original heroes I conceived of, inspired by my favorite story rewards (the Carnevale Masks) and my love of superhero media. I've really enjoyed mixing tropes with deconstructions, and tying it all up in a supernatural Lovecraftian style, as I developed these heroes. I hope you enjoyed it too!

Of course, because I took so long to finish, Hemlock Vale introduced SIX new masks. So my work is never done! See you soon.
