Her background really inspired this build, and having a last name of Fine made the pun of the Fine Line too hard to pass up. It was effortless to envision a line of white witches dating to the early origins of man - all of whom were given foresight and the destiny to fight against the tides of the old ones.
I started with the original Jacqueline Fine starter deck and tweaked it from there.
The first cards added were Enchanted Blade... passed down from generation to generation (there are reasons tropes are tropes). It envokes an image of a sword that has slain innumerable beasts of indescribable horror and carries with it an evil ichor on its magical aura. I wasn't a fan of Parallel Fates, even though it is a Mystic card created for her, and something had to go, so it was an easy trade.
I've always thought the card Astral Travel was an undervalued sleeper, and I wanted to combine it with Open Gate to help her be a powerhouse on moving around in ways that we've never done before. Not sure if it will pay off, but it sounds like fun. However, three cards added means I needed to make some deep cuts. Defiance seemed redundant, so it was easy to put on the chopping block, but from here I had to take out cards I liked. Dark Prophecy without Parallel Fates was the best I could do, and if I was going to take out one, I might as well take out both. But that gave me an extra empty slot... what to fill it with...
I asked for advice, and I was told Ward of Protection was a go-to card for starting Mystics, so it seemed like an easy add and fit in with the theme of a monster-hunting witch.
I thought I was done, but I happened on Drawn to the Flame. I really enjoy moments in the game where you have to decide on hurting yourself to get that thing you desperately need. These cards are great for that. But again, I'm stuck with taking something out, and I was sad to cut Crystal Pendulum, but it seemed like I had other cards that had a similar effect.
I like playing with Ally heavy decks, but a lone black cat Familiar Spirit seems to be the perfect familiar for this build. I am going to keep that theme element and restrict myself from taking any other Allies unless the scenario expressly dictates it.
I drew the The Tower • XVI as my Basic Weakness, so you know the first XP I get is going towards some Tarot cards! However, while I'm excited about the theme match... this card is MEAN! I'm not sure how I'm going to mitigate the challenge of not playing cards on tests or having to gimp myself by blowing my initial resources. It'll be interesting to see.
--== Update 7XP ==-- Ace of Rods and Four of Cups for four XP were the first in line. I cut out Hypnotic Gaze as only doing the physical damage and only on a bad token AND costing three resources seemed silly. Lesson learned there and an easy cut. The next card I replaced, however, hurt a bit more as I really like Ritual Candles. I liked it for the theme and for ability, but it didn't line up with Jacqueline's powers as the symbols are ignored unless you chose to select it... which never seems like a good choice.
The last three points were easy to spend upgrading Azure Flame with its first upgraded card, Azure Flame.
