Based somewhat off Dreadreapers draw deck (look for that deck for an excellent write up). The idea behind this deck is that you are dual wielding 2 out of your 3 hand items at any given moment given the situation of the board state you are in.
Investigating Ideally you'd like to get both a Lantern and a Magnifying Glass out which is an effective +2 to investigating. Commit your extra magnifying glass (or the lantern if you have fire axe out) and redraw it with scavenging or resourceful. The lantern also helps you to trigger scavenging easier. Deduction is of course also a no-brainer. Don't forget you can also use strange solution or rabbit's foot to commit to skill tests.
Card Draw Pretty self explanatory, you've got Laboratory Assistant, No Stone Unturned to fish for Analytical Mind and the 6 double pip cards. Strange Solution is here also for its eventual upgrade to ichor. I also love the idea of scavenging to redraw the items you may be committing to a skill test. Resourceful to redraw lost assets and of course Rabbit's Foot for those failed skill tests to draw more stuff that you can commit.
Combat I wanted just a little bit more combat stability than a pure draw deck which is why I included Fire Axe, "I've got a plan!" and Mind over Matter. I know I've got a plan is sort of situational but the possibility of doing 4 damage in one round just sounds too good to pass up. Lantern is there for its ability to do an untested 1 damage that you can get back with scavenging. Eventually you want to upgrade your strange solutions to acidic ichor. Overpower is there to either boost yourself up in a pinch to a combat of 5 or commit it to another investigator. I'm pretty open to suggestions here. I could see myself cutting either i've got a plan or mind over matter for something else. Mind over matter is super flexible but without for example Dr. Milan Christopher it would only be at a base of 4 which is good but not great.
Dealing with the King in Yellow You're bound to draw it at some point given how much card draw you have. Hopefully you'll have at least an Inquiring Mind an Unexpected Courage and a card of your choice to deal with it. Resourceful can also almost count as a double pip. Remember you can also dump items too and try to get them back with scavenging .
I'm totally open to suggestions. You're hopefully in a group or paired (I play mostly duo games) with a combat specialist so that you can focus on getting clues instead of fighting. If you do need to get into combat though you've got some options at your disposal. I thought about throwing in Dark horse because the resource costs are in general low but couldn't fit it in (and playing a dark horse deck really intrigues me...). With scavenging you're hopefully replaying your lost items. I wish I could have also fit in Lucky! but hopefully you're able to overcome deficits through card commitment alone. Other thoughts I had were trading another magnifying glass for a second lantern to be able to get that recursive 1 free damage over and over again.
