I had the pleasure to test Tony Morgan on the day of his release with two friends playing Tommy Muldoon & Mandy Thompson by playing Return to The Gathering and Return to The Midnight Masks in standard difficulty.
I choose the "guardian" side of Tony Morgan because the available XP-events are all related to weapon supply or capacities, and I felt it was the more "natural" way of playing him.
Feedback after two games
- Leo De Luca is really expensive, and considering Tony's capacity already gives him a free attack if needed, I'm wondering what the alternative could be (because you need something to tank some horrors). Could Smoking Pipe be a good idea? The Ally choice in neutral / rogue is really limited…
- Without Leo, you normally have everything to pay what you want to play…
- In multiplayer, the bounty system is not the greatest, because you need to be the one finishing the monsters, and it's not always the best way to use actions of everybody.
- With guardian (or seeker) events, and the base-3-intellect, you can investigate / find clues.
- Considering these two points, I'm thinking Tony Morgan is a good solo investigator, and can be played in duo with a cluer, but, although he's a great fighter, his power has a diminishing return the more players you add to the game.
- It's possible I may need more weapons, since most of my weapons need ammo.
- I single-handedly defeated a ghoul priest in one turn in a 3-player game (Leo de Luca + Tony capacity, 2 guns, and Lita Chandler in the room), so I'm confident in saying Tony Morgan is a really great fighter ;-)
- Interrogate could maybe be used for some scenarios / campaigns ?
- Tennessee Sour Mash ? I find this card too expensive, but who knows.
- In Solo, I probably would take the new rogue accessory (I don't know the english name yet) because being able to commit all the two-intellect icons events would be a huge asset, and having a monster in the deck would make me sure than I could play Scene of the Crime / Evidence! with more regularity.
- Tommy Muldoon is a huge tank (maybe more than William Yorick) and Mandy Thompson seems a little bit too powerful, I think… We managed to find 6 cultists in Return to The Midnight Masks, with almost improvised decks and no knowledge of our investigators…
Return to the The Gathering
6 XP:
- 2x Leo De Luca
- 2x Scene of the Crime => 2x Ever Vigilant
- 2x Adaptable
- 2x On the Hunt => 2x Steadfast (I felt very powerless against the encounter deck in the first scenario). I could (should) have replaced Double or Nothing with Guts as well, but I hadn't all my cards with me at the time. It seems I agree with https://www.reddit.com/r/arkhamhorrorlcg/comments/da5yok/tony_deckbuilding_guardian/ ;-)
The 10-limit card of guardian pool is harsh, because I wanted to take Vicious Blow (hence the 2nd Adaptable), but I didn't want to take out something other than Delay the Inevitable (in The Midnight Masks, you need to find the clues as quick as possible…
Return to The Midnight Masks
6 cultists! & 9 XP.
