Main strategy (manifests at 10xp)
Our main goal with this deck is to get a True Magick in play with a collection of spells in hand that we can replay again and again, with maximum flexibility. With this particular build, we're aiming to be a damage dealer first and foremost, though we'll pick clues on idle turns.
Things work best when we have True Magick in play with Enchanted Bow and a spell like Shrivelling in hand as it lets us shoot with the bow by exhausting True Magick, then taking the charge from it to play our spell.
Killing things
Our main monster killers is Agnes' ability. With Painkillers and / or Forbidden Knowledge in play, in addition to other inbound effects, we can deal at most 4 damage during a turn with this ability. Can't do that every turn though, but it is worth noting that the ability can be used once each phase, so it is quite flexible and repeatable if the scenario calls for it.
Walking by a Acolyte and casually killing it while grabbing a resource from Forbidden Knowledge is a nice one, for instance.
Or walking up to a Young Deep One have it engage you for a 1 damage and finishing it with a Shrivelling or Azure Flame.
Storm of Spirits is there for when Agnes gets swarmed, which happens from time to time.
Note that we're starting with 2x Trauma also, from In the Thick of It. We'll put these to physical so we start with damage, having a place to put our initial Painkillers triggers to give off more damage.
Dealing with damage and horror
As we're going to be taking a lot of horror to kill things, we need to soak that up. Agnes is friendly with Peter Sylvestre so he can soak up random points of horror that come along. Likewise, we can spread some on Holy Rosary also in a pinch.
To actually heal ourselves, we have Fearless which one might as well just commit to anything that has a reasonably high chance of success. And then there's Meditative Trance which when we have Familiar Spirit out and a full set of arcane slots, will heal us for 3 horror. Meditative Trance can be used to heal physical damage also, but usually our Painkillers is enough to deal with those.
Signature card - Heirloom
Treat it as a decent skill card, the accessory slot is for Holy Rosary.
Resources
Our main source of extra resources throughout a campaign will be Forbidden Knowledge. Used tactically to nuke Swarm of Rats and Initiate of Dagon or similar.
In the early game, we'll want to play more spells out, so we have Uncage the Soul which offers nice action compression over options like Voice of Ra or Emergency Cache as we don't need a separate action to get the resources.
Later in the campaign, we'll be relying mostly on True Magick to play spells, which means we won't need to play as much, hence True Magick replaces Uncage the Soul.
Draw / Mulligan
There's no additional access to drawing cards. The class, at least the asset style of Mystic is all about getting set up, then run with what we've got. As such, in the early game, take draw actions to dig up the pieces you need.
Upgrades:
10xp Uncage the Soul → True Magick (5)
This is our first upgrade, we'll want to replace the arcane assets with True Magick so we can simply hold them in hand and keep replaying them. This gives us an unlimited amount of charges, although we'll be limited to a single instance per round. Per True Magick in play that is.
There will occasionally be a game where Agnes has two True Magick out, in which case, she's in for a rather good time.
4xp Peter Sylvestre (0) → Peter Sylvestre (2)
Her boyfriend, Peter, is a good upgrade because he's both a good place to soak horror, and the upgrade grants +1 in additionto +1.
4xp Azure Flame → Enchanted Bow (2)
While the flame is a decent fight spell, the Enchanted Bow works better with True Magick. It exhausts rather than spending a charge, which means that with a bow and a Shrivelling in hand, the same True Magick can be used twice each round.
2xp Fearless → Fearless (2)
Heal horror at instant speed, while tackling some check.
From here on out, its just a matter of boosting our prowess, so we level up our spells.
You can't have two True Magick in play, due to it being unique (the *). For that reason Twila might be nice to have alongside Peter :)
