She give me Akachi - All night long
She give me Akachi - All night long"
(Ofenbach/Waterhouse)
As the prophets doth sing, Akachi is a character with potentially great staying power, burning through extra charges on any spell and casually recharging their powers with the -token or Spirit-Speaker. Nothing stands in her way of giving her Akachi support all through the darkest of nights.
Some thoughts about the less obvious deck choices:
Fine Clothes are mandatory because we will play the Carcosa Campaign and you never go to a theater in your esoteric rags.
We'll see how Alchemical Transmutation will turn out as a money source instead of Emergency Cache. In the lucky case of Spirit-Speaker, you can use it for a two-action +5 resource burst (if you don't mess up your willpower pull).
As our campaign will be 4-player, I decided to skip investigative prowess except for Drawn to the Flame and Rite of Seeking, and the deck is very low on -icons.
Torrent of Power is my Guts-Replacement, so the deck is a bit lighter on card draw (which might hurt) but can dish out better results on Shrivelling or Rite of Seeking attempts on high-risk targets. So in short, this deck wants to be the giant-toppler, Astral Travel-ing to big baddies or high-shroud Locations and dealing with them.
I'm tempted to throw out the second Fearless for a second Astral Travel, as that card is her only mobility enhancer and can be discounted with Uncage the Soul. Best case scenarios would be jumping to a fellow investigator swamped by enemies and casting Storm of Spirits or taking two clues off of the hardest location on the map.
Thoughts on upgrades: Shrivelling of course! And Rite of Seeking. After that, getting better allies or possibly a Bulletproof Vest to deal with the serious spell backlash that deals damage (Storm of Spirits, Astral Travel, Alchemical Transmutation). And it wouldn't be Akachi if it wouldn't strive to get Grotesque Statue as fast as possible !
I said, "Hey man, where, where'd you get those eyes?" He met a girl that could hypnotize
One big mystery remains: In the song, it is sung that the girl responsible for giving the A-kachi was capable of hypnotizing, yet there is no Hypnotic Gaze to be seen. Did the prophets err at last?

May 09, 2018Ever consider using the decorated skull? It comes into play with an extra charge so its automatically breaking even once you use it from an action economy standpoint and Akachi usually kills more than her fair share of enemies. |
May 09, 2018Hey I hadn't considered it because Forgotten Age hasn't been released in my country yet, but if it arrives in time to start the campaign, I'll add it in (possibly throwing Blinding Light out). Upsides: As you said, it starts with a charge, so in click economy terms you only dig the hole so deep (1 for drawing it + 1 for the ressource + 1 for using it vs. gaining 1 and 1 means theoretically you're down one until you use it a second time). What I really like is the idea of possibly letting the charges mount up for using them with Torrent of Power or Spirit-Speaker. I think this card is a keeper! |
May 09, 2018This is exactly what I was looking for. My wife and I just finished Dunwich last night and are itching to start Carcosa! Thanks for all the hard work! |
May 10, 2018No worries Let me know how your Akachi fared on her way to Carcosa.
Also, note that |
Nice write-up! The Eingeweihte der arkanen Künste is a pretty strong card draw/filter engine.
