This deck was designed to be paired with Marion Takes a Gunbit deck guide by @Providence. Very fun concept, go check it out :)
Synergies with Marion
Bob's innate ability allows Marion to play her Remington(4) without triggering attacks of opportunity, hence mitigating a risk related to her combo.
Picture this: Marion has Remington(4) in her hand (not in play). She draws an enemy. Bob uses his ability to play Remington(4) under Marion's control, triggering the gun's enter play . Then on her own turn Marion has 3 actions left, enough to empty the gun and deal up to 8 total damage (not counting damage boost from skills & events).
Shrewd Dealings provides the following options:
- Play .18 Derringer under Marion's control, buying her some time to cycle between her 2 Remingtons.
- Play Old Keyring or Flashlight under Marion's control. Remington(4) is best kept in Marion's hand (not in play) until an enemy shows up, which means her hand slot will occasionally be free during investigation turns.
- Play Backpack under Marion's control.
- Play Marion's 2nd Wolf Mask under Bob's control.
Friends in Low Places can be resolved by Marion to search for her Gun after she cycles it back into her deck.
Rest of the deck
Backpack has countless targets to help with setup.
Old Keyring, Flashlight and Matchbox reduce location shroud value to trigger Lola Santiago at low cost.
Lockpicks triggers Lucky Cigarette Case and Scavenging.
Scavenging has multiple targets (Old Keyring, Flashlight, Matchbox, Schoffner's Catalogue, .18 Derringer, Talisman of Protection)
Friends in Low Places can chain easy marks and place talents & allies on top of the deck.
Take Heart and Grizzled (Terror and Hazard) are here for mythos tests, admittedly a weak point of this duo where both investigators have 2.
Bob & Marion help each other survive with Talisman of Protection and Soothing Melody.
Another Day, Another Dollar helps with setup and mitigate Greed.
Downgrade path
Lola Santiago → Lawrence Carlisle
Notice how the number of cards is a perfect match to transition from a main discard archetype to a balanced discard, money & oversucceed gameplay.
A few words on Marion's deck
Although largely inspired by Marion Takes a Gunbit, I would do a few tweaks in her deck to optimize her partnership with Bob:
-
Stand Together instead of Emergency Cache. Bob can pay for Marion's items, so 4 total resource for the team is better than 3 for Marion.
-
Tetsuo Mori instead of Madame Labranche. With Bob in the team there is less pressure on economy, and Tetsuo fits well in Marion's gameplay loop by serving both purposes of searching her deck or getting the gun back from her discard.
-
Taboo'ed Hand-Eye Coordination no longer works with Remington(4). I replace them with Ace of Swords (I like to have a static boost for investigators with base 4 on their main skill) and Scrounge for Supplies.
-
Fang of Tyr'thrha is downgraded to One-Two Punch. With Bob's contribution to the fighting effort (by giving actions to Marion), Fang feels like luxury.
-
The xp is instead spent on True Awakening (amazing in Marion) replacing Ready for Anything.
Final thoughts
At first I had a fantasy of including Lupara in Bob's deck, to give to Marion with Shrewd Dealings. However this only works if you're also running Joey "The Rat" Vigil, as Lupara would need to be played during Marion's turn.
Nevertheless, I truly believe that pairing Bob with "Gunbit" Marion is a win. Both in terms of flavor and gameplay synergies. I can't wait to test this in my next campaign! Thanks again to @Providence for the inspiration, and please let me know what you think :)
