This deck's purpose is to assist the Rex Bomb deck - https://arkhamdb.com/decklist/view/7272/rex-bomb-up-to-12-damage-in-one-action-1.0, - and hopefully make it more playable. The Rex bomb, contains a fun combo but requires some support to make it work more consistently. It's probably worth checking that deck out first, but this deck helps on three counts.

1) Taking care of enemies in the first few scenarios while Rex level's up. Spirit Athame, Shrivelling, Song of the Dead, and Storm of Spirits are all there to help with this, and Arcane Research is there to speed up the upgrades.

2) Accelerating xp so that Rex can upgrade the Ancient Stone as soon as possible, using Delve Too Deep

3) Finally, but most importantly, increasing the chances of Rex hitting the crucial Elder sign, to trigger the Rex Bomb in the following ways:

Firstly, and most consistently, 2 x Seal of the Elder Sign, quite expensive, but absolutely guaranteed to make the Rex Bomb hit when you want it to.

Next the fact that Father Mateo can turn an Autofail into an Elder sign, automatically doubles the chance of it hitting.

2 x Time Warp, only works if you happen to be in the same location, but gives you a "do-over" which when combined with both Father Mateo's ability and Rex's Curse becomes pretty significant, making the chance of achieving an elder sign about 41%, and if you have both Time Warps in your hand 55% (based on 16 tokens in bag).

Premonition can be really helpful here too, especially when combined with Olive McBride or Dark Prophecy. Also when combined with The Codex of Ages, can be another guaranteed elder sign.

The only major downside of this character is that if the Serpents of Yig appear it makes it harder for the Rex Bomb to hit.

As mentioned on the other decklist, these decks are only made for a bit of fun, however so far on my Dunwich run they are performing beautifully, and have made the Rougarou look very silly indeed!

Perhaps consider running the support out of Jim, not Mateo? That way you a) don't have the Serpents of Yig downside, and b) can use Double or Nothing, which is useful both to get more secrets on the Stones and to double the card-draw effects of Rex's elder sign and Take Heart, for even more damage in one action.

Hi @TheNameWasTaken! Thanks for the comment. Yep Jim if definitely worth considering for his ability to use Double or Nothing. Definitely useful for getting more secrets on the stones, but unfortunately Double or Nothing doesn't help with the Rex effect because it only works on successful tests. I think? Yes Serpents of Yig is definitely a thorn in the side (as any good signature weakness should be) but I think the benefit of Mateo in increasing the elder sign "yield" outways the downside. Plus I'm fairly certain, and have checked with a few people but Serpents of Yig doesn't stop you using effects that say "treat as an elder sign", such as "seal of the elder sign" or mateo's character ability. Plus you could just kill it! Thanks for the feedback!

Oh right, there's an "if successful" clause on DoN. I forgot all about that one. Never mind me then.

And yes, Serpents of Yig do still let you use "treat as elder sign" effects. You only don't get to randomly pull elder signs from the bag.

@TheNameWasTaken in a wonderful stoke of irony, you could get Rex to play Preposterous Sketches in its location and kill the serpents instantly!
