Wendy Adams Combo Deck

The aim of the combo is to succeed at all skill tests, regardless of difficulty.
Bonus objectives are Infinte Money and Infinite Actions.

The Combo

Prerequisite

Example Execution

  1. Initiate a 10 difficulty test.
  2. Draw "-4" token (currently failing by 10)
  3. Play Lucky! (goes to bottom of deck), if first skill test this round draw Daring Maneuver otherwise draw Lucky! (currently failing by 7)
  4. Play Lucky! (goes to bottom of deck), draw other copy of Lucky! (currently failing by 4)
  5. Repeat step 5 (currently failing by 1)
  6. Repeat step 5 (winning by 2)
  7. If this is the last skill test before Upkeep: Play Daring Maneuver (goes to bottom of deck) (winning by 4)
  8. Skill test succeeded.

In Upkeep you will draw Lucky! and have Daring Maneuver as the only card remaining in your draw pile.

How to get there in the first place

Short Answer

Daredevil

Long answer

Step 1 is to find Wendy's Amulet and Daredevil in your deck. Wendy's Amulet cannot be taken from the discard pile by Scrounge for Supplies nor by Resourceful, only Scavenging helps, so drawing cards and playing Backpack (even with Sleight of Hand) are your best bet. Take Heart can also let you draw cards.

Step 1½ if you are in a real rush you could risk playing Daredevil without those cards secured in hand or play: after your deck is discarded play Scrounge for Supplies to get back Scavenging, investigate and win by 2 to get back Wendy's Amulet.
A lot of things have to go right for this to work out, but with Yaotl in play you should be able to get rid of your weaknesses and at least gain another turn to get your cards back from discard. It also gets easier if you already have Scrounge for Supplies in play since you could get Wendy's Amulet back on the same test you discarded it.

Step 2 is to commit Daredevil to any skill test. This will discard your entire deck and shuffle all* weaknesses back.

Step 3 is to make sure you have both copies of Lucky! and 1 copy of Daring Maneuver in hand or bottom of deck before you draw into Abandoned and Alone. Resourceful, Scrounge for Supplies and Wendy's Amulet should help with that.
Try to also save Fire Axe from Abandoned and Alone. 2 damage per action is twice as good as 1 damage per action.
A Test of Will has its uses, too.

*: for exceptions see FAQ entry 1.13

Example

In a perfect world you would:

  1. Play Yaotl
  2. Play Wendy's Amulet
  3. Initiate skill test and commit Daredevil
  4. Play any 2 events to put on bottom of your deck (can play top event from discard pile or any from hand)
  5. Use Yaotl's ability to discard up to 3 weaknesses (he is errataed to be once per phase) to draw a non-weakness card during upkeep

Problems & Solutions

Token

There is no fool proof solution to help against the token, but with Wendy Adams' ability you get a second chance at practically no cost (discard Lucky! to pay for it and play it from discard pile on the next skill test).

With more experience Eucatastrophe could be another option.

Treacheries that discard cards from player decks

After Daring Maneuver is discarded you cannot start playing Lucky!, since that would cause your deck to be shuffled and require you to discard everything again (and deal with your weaknesses).

Possible solutions are:

  • A Test of Will
  • Play any other event before making a skill test. It will go to bottom of deck and you will be able to start going off with Lucky! again.
  • Preparing for this situation by getting Daredevil back to hand (for example by using Scrounge for Supplies) and just empty your deck again (will have to deal with weaknesses).

Basic Weaknesses

Some Basic Weaknesses can be a bit of an obstacle:

  • Doomed just kinda means you are actually doomed.
  • Kleptomania you can actually get rid off by triggering its while there are no cards in your deck (see FAQ entry 1.13).
  • The Thing That Follows same solution as above, just a little harder to time correctly.
  • Through the Gates sucks if it gets any of the combo pieces.

To all of these Yaotl's second ability is the only "solution" I could come up with which Wendy Adams can run.

Another option would be to ask a friend to bring Scroll of Secrets.

Other investigators letting you draw cards

Kindly but firmly ask them not to.

Miscellaneous

Why Daring Maneuver?

No good reason in particular. It synergizes with Scavenging, but that's just the cherry on top.

Important part is to have a cheap & fast card to draw and play every round to avoid reshuffling your discard pile.

If you have Infinite Money (or at least somethingn like Lone Wolf) other cards become options to, for example Swift Reflexes.

Why 2x Lucky! and not just once?

If am not mistaken the timings of events work out so that you first resolve the effect from Lucky! (draw 1 card) and only after that actually put it on the bottom of your deck with Wendy's Amulet.

If it was the other way around (put to bottom, then draw) one copy would suffice.

FAQ entry 1.13

"A single card cannot be shuffled into an empty player deck or encounter deck via card effect."

This means that if Daredevil wants you to shuffle 1 weakness back into an empty deck, the weakness stays in your discard pile instead. Which is pretty sweet if you have only 1 weakness left in your deck at the time you commit Daredevil to a test.

Bonus Objectives

Infinite Money

When you have Easy Mark as the only card in your deck and another copy of Easy Mark in your hand (or top of discard pile) you can get infinite money by playing the copy from hand -> put to bottom of deck -> draw another copy -> trigger its -> continue until rich.

Infinite Actions

Once you have Infinite Money you need to get 2x Swift Reflexes and 1x Preposterous Sketches (or any event that lets you draw 3 or more card in a single action, I couldn't find many...) into your hand and 1x Preposterous Sketches as the only card in your deck.

You can get Preposterous Sketches by including 2x Versatile. I don't think Teamwork or "You owe me one!" will work since the card would go to the other players discard pile, not your own.

The loop then goes:

  1. Play 2x Swift Reflexes (+2 actions)
  2. Play 1x Preposterous Sketches to draw both Swift Reflexes and the other copy of Preposterous Sketches (-1 action)

Repeat until scenario finished.

Conclusion

Wendy's Amulet is busted if you can empty your deck.
