Darken The City
"I beheld the blade in both shaking hands, the viscera of the unfortunate ghoul ashen from the most insignificant pressure; a not unpleasant aroma of earth and copper. Brain-fogged and elated, the dream, for that is what it had always been till then, seemed to harden, solidify. Lifeforce... just like any other force, had an opposition... the relic called for more... promised more, with the force to match any demand I would make of it. Celephais was to be mine, the knights had said so in their erstwhile merriment. Only on awakening to these thoughts did I contain the ramifications of how my city, indeed every dominion lifted out of the mud by toil and purpose, would be built on blood"
- The Journal of Kuranes - fragment. Translated by R. Carter 1926
Straddle The Line
You behold here dear reader a multiplayer build for Yorick whose sole purpose is the feed the The Hungering Blade, including dealing with the resulting Bloodlust. The blade certainly requires some consideration when constructing an investigator, as two enemies must be killed before a single bloodlust can be satisfied, and six to be fully satiated.
The main schtick for this deck to use Handcuffs to 'store' humanoid enemies until you are ready to play the blade and ultimately sacrifice them at will. To aid this Riot Whistle takes out some of the action cost of re-engaging the exhausted enemies, while Ever Vigilant reduces some of the action cost in an playing an asset heavy build. Yorick is particularly efficient for this purpose as he can recycle his Handcuffs having dealt with his previously chained victims - grizzly!
Generally Yorick wants to see as many enemies as he can to fuel the blade, so adding in a Crystallizer of Dreams boosts the enemies in his deck along with the Graveyard Ghouls. Not the most efficient use of Versatile but the jank seemed worth it. You can also shuffle the Crystallizer of Dreams into the discard with another accessory, then replay it from the discard adding in the second guardian. It is a shame that the guardians are not humanoid but no matter. In combination with Purifying Corruption, On the Hunt and "Let me handle this!" very few enemies should escape his grasp.
Stalked In The Forest, Too Close To Hide
Piloting this build will be about:
- Securing your assets
- Securing your enemies, with Handcuffs if possible,
- Feeding the blade.
With Backpack and Prepared for the Worst you probably don't need the blade in your opening hand but if you see it do consider keeping it. Crystallizer of Dreams should be pitched as this is generally a later game play, but having it early is not too bad should you have the tools to deal with a Guardian of the Crystallizer.
Jessica Hyde, Cherished Keepsake, Handcuffs and Ever Vigilant are always good to see early.
Generally it makes sense to save Brute Force and Vicious Blow for enemies you can't Handcuff or deal with by Knife juggling.
In terms of searching for enemies, Purifying Corruption is only better should you have Jessica Hyde and Cherished Keepsake in play, but it is great mythos protection too. Otherwise, stick with On the Hunt and "Let me handle this!" unless flush with resources.
Draw definitely is a double edged sword once you put out the blade, so consider building your hand and 'cuffed blade-batteries' first. All is not lost however as horror soak is not a big problem for Yorick. Bloodlust charges on the blade ideally should be saved for bigger high health enemies but it may be worth dropping one or two after a few more charges have accumulated on the blade.
In Touch With The Ground
A small selection alternate builds for Yorick are hinted at in the side deck. First Watch is notable in potentially taking several enemies at once, especially in combo with Purifying Corruption, but really you want a slow drip of enemies rather than lots all at once.
Lucky! is technically better than Oops! but I like the jank of possibly attacking your handcuffed enemies to perhaps hit a high fight retaliate enemy instead, but arguments for both.
In terms of assets, I originally toyed with going with Peter Sylvestre and Charisma rather than Cherished Keepsake to horror soak, but, keepsake fits better with Yorick's ability, and saves on resources.
True Survivor is a wildcard option, it depends how well skills are going but there a quite a few innate cards that can be recurred so one to consider as a swap with Nothing Left to Lose
Should you want a more balanced or solo build then here are some example swaps:
- Evidence! or Lesson Learned > Dodge
- Scene of the Crime and/or Interrogate and/or "Look what I found!" > 1x Prepared for the Worst and/or Oops! and/or "Let me handle this!" (obviously the latter in solo)
- Flashlight > 1xPurifying Corruption and 1x Daring
- Gravedigger's Shovel > Knife
- Sharp Vision > "Not without a fight!" or Vicious Blow
So that is it dear reader. Offer your thoughts in the comments below! Realised some other sweet tech to run the blade better? Does it even function outside of thematic entertainment? Or is this the first time you considered a blade that could let you carve your own dominion in the mythos?
I would think Yorick would have something to say about "discord and rhyme...." Beyond that, well played, my friend, well played.
