Mummify your companions - on a budget! Experience the indefatigable power of undead allies! Then, when the ritual is complete, reuse those dirty bandages and expired coupons to do it all over again!

Collection Flexibility

This William Yorick deck centers around player cards from the Edge of the Earth Expansion (Bandages, Schoffner's Catalogue, and Ice Pick (3)). Below I've suggested alternate builds for those who may be missing the player cards from The Forgotten Age and The Circle Undone.

Overview

The core combo of this deck involves continually wrapping a Guard Dog or Beat Cop (2) in Bandages, paid for with coupons, to keep them alive indefinitely, though it is very effective even when pieces of the combo are missing.

Yorick's ability squeezes extra use out of assets by recurring them from his discard pile. This ability is even more potent with consumable assets, because they're balanced around limited uses. Most of the assets in the deck are also items, which are the most versatile assets: They can be purchased using Schoffner's Catalogue, searched using Backpack, and thrown-from-hand with Act of Desperation.

Even from level zero, this deck can one-shot 3 or 4 health enemies with the extra damage provided by Guard Dog and Vicious Blow. Bandages keep the damage rolling by immediately healing up the dog (and, later, a Beat Cop (2)). Squeeze out even more damage by taking In the Thick of It and picking up Ice Pick (3) early.

Once fully upgraded, the extra damage becomes remarkably consistent: Bandages mummify your Beat Cop (2), preventing it from dying; Ice Picks picks can be rebuilt immediately after killing an enemy with them.

Team Role Variations

This deck is designed to play the primary fighter role on a team. There is some clue tech included so Yorick can pull his weight when enemies aren't around: In addition to Scene of the Crime and "Look what I found!", Take the Initiative and Ice Pick (3) can be great clue-acquisition cards. If you want to improve clue-finding abilities, swap in Flashlights or Gravedigger's Shovels; you could even Jury-Rig a Lantern. If you want to focus exclusively on enemy management, consider swapping in cards like First Watch, Taunt, "Get behind me!", and Inspiring Presence instead of the cluing events provided here.

Piloting

Bandages can continually keep Guard Dog and Beat Cop (2) at full health. Rebuild depleted Bandages with Yorick's ability, and rebuild depleted Catalogues to pay for them. Bandages work best when your mummified companion is only damaged in 1-damage increments. (For multi-damage enemies or treacheries, place the extra point of damage on Yorick: Bandages' can be triggered separately for each asset damage gets assigned to.) Horror from enemy attacks will need to be dealt to Yorick, but it can be healed with Hallowed Mirror's Soothing Melody or, in certain circumstances, Meat Cleaver. Because horror will accumulate faster, you're likely to reach the Cleaver's +2 range easily. Hopefully you've found Hallowed Mirror before that becomes a problem.

All of the items mentioned above (plus Emergency Cache) can be found using Backpack. Caches are great, but Schoffner's Catalogue is slightly preferred as economy because it can be resurrected using Yorick's ability (and without using an action, which the Cache requires).

As mentioned previously, the suite of events can be adjusted based on the others on your team. Act of Desperation works wonders when the Enchanted Blade runs out of charges, and its icons are useful in a pinch. Glory can provide some of the card draw that's lacking in Guardian and Survivor, though you may also consider the neutral skills to fill a similar role instead.

This deck can churn through a lot of items. Resourceful helps recur what Yorick's ability can't, and may be essential if enemies are harder to find. It's also great if there's a crucial event you want to reuse. (Tip: If you use Resourceful to recur an item, it is most action-efficient to use it on Ice Pick (2), because the pick is fast to play. If possible, save Yorick's ability for item assets that would otherwise require an action to play.)

Once upgraded, Beat Cop allows you to control your mummy's damage, rather than relying on enemies attacking you. This in turn reduces risks to your personal health and sanity. The cop also provides a valuable +1 boost and 1 sanity soak.

Defensively, Take the Initiative provides good protection against mythos tests and can help evade an enemy when necessary. Guts, Manual Dexterity, or Daring could be swapped in for Glory if you want additional mythos protection or evasion capabilities. If you still find you're getting beat up in mythos, prioritize defensive upgrades like Alter Fate or A Test of Will.

Upgrades

The first 12 xp should be spent as follows:

Note that you may want to upgrade the backpack before the second ice pick, which will help ensure you get a solid weapon in hand quickly.

Your next upgrades can respond to the campaign and how the deck has fared so far.

Strongly consider Timeworn Brand if you want an even more reliable weapon with a one-time damage boost and one-time card-draw boost. If this replaces one or both Enchanted Blades, you can then ditch Act of Desperation in your next upgrades.

Ever Vigilant is another great economy card, especially valuable for the actions it saves you.

Scrapper is valuable if you find you have extra resources and want additional ways to boost your combat, and especially if you find you need evasion to supplement your enemy-killing.

Either Alter Fate can provide more defense against treacheries that stay in play.

If you like living on the edge or have a partner with solid horror healing, you can replace the Mirror with Police Badge, which can be recurred to give your team lots of free actions.

If you're loving the allies or accessories, you're welcome to double up on either using Relic Hunter or Charisma.

Limited Collection Adjustments

If playing without The Circle Undone: Several weapons could replace Enchanted Blades, at which point you can decide which to keep when you upgrade into Ice Picks. Cherished Keepsake is a perfectly fine replacement accessory and still performs the main function of protecting your sanity. Without Act of Desperation you'll be more likely to stick with non-consumable weapons, like the Meat Cleaver, Machete, or eventually Timeworn Brand.

If playing without The Forgotten Age/Return To: You can lean into "Look what I found!" instead of Scene of the Crime. Backpack is harder to replace, but Prepared for the Worst can at least grab you a weapon. At this point you might consider using EotE's Short Supply so that you have an extra chance to find Bandages and the Catalogue: in your discard pile, if not in your opening hand or in your backpack. (Note that upgraded Backpack is very easily proxied if you don't own the Return To. Only the number of cards searched, and one icon, change.)
