Hello fellow investigators! There's not a lot of Father Mateo solo decks. Mateo recently got a huge cardpool update with Innsmouth campaign, and most of the players started playing around it, and figured out that blessed deck focused around Ancient Covenant can do wonders. So why am i talking about it here when i'm clearly using the Paradoxical Covenant you might ask? Because i think it is equally strong, and these couple of nights have proven me that it might even be stronger AND also a lot more fun to play. This is the lvl 0 deck that i've built to take our beloved priest through RtCU campaign without siding with the witches nor the lodge. I managed to win the campaign with a fair ease, where only once was i in trouble since this deck relies on Sixth Sense a lot to find clues.

The idea behind this deck was how to use Curse cards like Armageddon since in theory, in solo atleast, those extra charges can be quite valuable while also sometimes dealing damage to enemies when revealing curse tokens to take care of things like Whippoorwill or such. I wanted to make a deck that feels "safe" when playing it, even tho we are using curses and curse spells. I found the solution in our lovely captain Jacob Morrison.

Cards like Promise of Power should be saved to take care of those campaign breaking threacheries that might deal you 3 dmg or such, so don't use it to just boost you on some random tests. Since the latest taboo list, Scroll of Secrets is a pretty decent card, and since we need some combo pieces later when we get some xp i found it stick around in the deck for longer than i expected.

Use Tempt Fate when you have Favor of the Moon in hand to seal all 3 curse tokens that you would put in the bag, that way you basically just put 3 bless tokens in the bag for free and replace tempt fate in your hand. Sounds sweet to me! We wanna use curse tokens when we want to, and keep the bag full of bless ones so when we reveal a bless token (which we will a lot) you can just exhaust Favor of the Moon and release 1 curse to trigger our Paradoxical Covenant to get an auto-pass and gain 1 resource aswell.

Later on when we upgrade our deck you will have a bag full of bless tokens, and Favor of the Moon in play to trigger our covenant whenever you want to, to get an auto-pass. Whenever we would fail a test, we exhaust Jacob Morrison and pass it, and the next time we reveal a bless we just ready him, which is sometimes a couple of times per turn. That way, this deck basically never fails tests between him and auto-succeeds with our covenant. We keep our bag filled with Rite of Equilibrium and if you open with it and Harmony Restored that is pure gold.

UPGRADES -> this is in no particular order (we also have 1 xp left from our starting 5)

Drawn to the Flame -> Rite of Equilibrium

Drawn to the Flame -> Harmony Restored

2x Arcane Initiate -> 2x Jacob Morrison

2x Holy Rosary -> 2x Holy Rosary

2x Shrivelling ->2x Armageddon

2x Spectral Razor -> 2x Radiant Smite

2x Sixth Sense -> 2x Sixth Sense

And that's basically it. If you still have some xp left then feel free to upgrade into Eucatastrophe or Seal of the Elder Sign. Keep your bag full of blesses and have fun!

I think I'd find some way to run Priest of Two Faiths (for theme and I'm happy with the slow bleed of Cursed tokens in a deck like this). Wonder if it's worth Charisma and the extra slots in deck?

There isn't a whole lot of spells to justify Arcane Initiates actually.
Maybe squeeze in the Priest of Two Faiths in place?
