I'm about to try a two-player run through Dream Eaters. I'm planning on using Daisy and Agnes as my two investigators. Please suggest any improvements for this Agnes deck, which will be combat-focused to pair with a clue-finding partner.
I'm eager to see how the new economy card Prophetic works, so from the start I include cards that will key off of it after it's in place.
Offense Tools
There are 4 cards to deal with enemies in the deck. Shrivelling is the classic monster-slaying spell, starting at 2 damage and increasing as XP allows. Storm of Spirits looks like a equivalent to Dynamite but usually doesn't damage the investigators. Spectral Razor does lots of damage, adds + for the test, and even grants Engage as a free bonus to deal with Aloof enemies.
The Sword Cane looks amazing and is for odd damage (to finish off monsters. Or to use Agnes' exceptional in place of to deal with weak rats, cultists, etc. Also: it never runs out of charges. Also: it activates for free when she equips it. Oh, and it lets her evade with the statistic! Looks crazy good to me...
Multiple Triggers for Agnes' Featured Ability
This isn't new by any means, but I aim to use every opportunity available to take advantage of Agnes Baker' featured power to deal testless damage. Shrivelling triggers it whenever the attack pulls a special token. Forbidden Knowledge triggers it to grants resource. Painkillers triggers it to regain health. Ward of Protection can even trigger it if an enemy is lurking in her location during the Mythos Phase.
Defense: Horror Maintenance and the Managing the Encounter Deck
Again nothing new here, but the counterweight to the buildup of horror is Peter Sylvestre, who recovers a point every turn. In addition there's Fearless, Holy Rosaries for soak, and a Perseverance (for boss fights). Not to mention preempting the worst outcomes with cards like Deny Existence and Ward of Protection.
Finding Clues (When There's No One to Slay)
Drawn to the Flame can find a couple testless clues in a pinch, and Agnes should have little problem coping with whatever the Encounter deck throws at her. Rite of Seeking can grab them in pairs as well, using her excellent stat in place of her low .
Manage the Chaos Bag
From the start this deck has a little room to spare and includes a Lucky!, Ritual Candles (to soften the worst draws) and a Premonition to assure one critical test. As XPs are gained it adds the powerful the Grotesque Statues (2) for clutch tests later in the campaign.
Economy
At the start this looks like rather a weak spot. The Robes only seem worthwhile if drawn early, but otherwise there's just Forbidden Knowledge, and I fear the economy will suck. The good news is that the earliest XP spending adds two copies of the Prophetic, which can stack and pays for the numerous the cards that key off of Spell, Fortune, and Spirit!
XP Spending
I'm aiming to use the discount from Arcane Research between every scenario, especially on Shrivelling. If there's time left at the end of a scenario Delve Too Deep can help speed up advancement! The rough plan is:
2xp Shrivelling (3) upgrade first copy, discount from Arcane Research
3xp Prophetic - swap for Robes of Endless Night, much better for economy
1xp Four of Cups - swap for a Painkillers
1xp Shrivelling (5) upgrade first copy, discount from Arcane Research
3xp Prophetic - swap for Premonition
2xp Peter Sylvestre (2) upgrade a copy so now he adds to Willpower and has more horror soak
2xp Shrivelling (3) upgrade other copy, discount from Arcane Research
2xp Grotesque Statue - swap for Ritual Candles
1xp Shrivelling (5) upgrade second copy, discount from Arcane Research
2xp Grotesque Statue (2) - swap for a Delve Too Deep
2xp Peter Sylvestre (2) upgrade the second copy
1xp Rite of Seeking (2) upgrade, discount from Arcane Research
2xp Guts (2) upgrade
2xp Fearless (2) upgrade
1xp Rite of Seeking (4) upgrade, discount from Arcane Research
2xp Guts (2) upgrade
1xp Alter Fate swap for ?
2xp Storm of Spirits (3) upgrade discount from Arcane Research
Q1 : are there any good options for searching ("tutoring" in MtG-speak), or starting with key cards in play?
Q2: what cards here are terrible?
Q3: what cool cards did I miss?
THANKS!!
