Hey guys! This is an idea I 've had that involves crafting two decks that are meant to be paired with one another. It features Roland Banks and Carolyn Fern in hybrid roles and revolves around good teamplay. The second deck of the set can be found here: https://arkhamdb.com/decklist/view/18474/carolyn-and-roland-are-fearless-paired-decks-30-xp-4.0

The main idea:

Roland wants to do the main part of enemy handling using The Hungering Blade as his main weapon and having some more weapons as his backup. He has Mr. "Rook" to search for critical cards, including more weapons and Reliables to boost the The Hungering Blade, as well as find Bloodlusts for further efficiency. Clues are handled via his ability, as well as Scene of the Crime and Extensive Research. A few investigate actions on low-shroud locations may also do the trick.

Carolyn will do most of the clue gathering stuff while staying close to Roland for instant horror healing via Solemn Vow and Peter Sylvestre, but she'll be ready for combat anytime with Shrivelling and perhaps Blood-Rite and Dynamite Blast. Both of them will be moving together most of the time to maximize action efficiency with Pathfinder and Safeguard. Carolyn also has a fair bit of encounter protection with "Fool me once..." and Ward of Protection.

Moving together will save you from a lot of trouble regarding encounter management but that doesn't mean that you don't have to split up. Both of you are hybrid after all and you can handle yourselves quite well.

Some important notes:

  • Roland has to babysit Carolyn in the early game until she can find her Shrivelling and boost her willpower to desirable levels via playing her assets. After that, you can split up when necessary.

  • Roland may be in trouble regarding clearing Cover Up so Carolyn may have to clear it for him. Roland can use Quick Study to drop a clue on a favorable location to make this task easier. Given the nature of these decks though, suffering 1 or 2 mental trauma from it can even turn into a profit for Carolyn, so depending on the situation, you may want or not want to clear this weakness.

  • Using The Hungering Blade means Roland is prone to horror issues, which is why I have chosen Carloyn as his partner. Staying close to each other will solve that issue, as Carolyn can instantly heal Roland's horror with Solemn Vow and save Logical Reasoning for the hard stuff, as well as for clearing Rational Thought.

  • Staying close to each other can also benefit you regarding generating "resources". Carolyn can play Stand Together more easily and she can use Crack the Case to donate a few resources to Roland. Additionally, Solemn Vow can always generate resources for Carolyn when paired with Peter Sylvestre.

  • I have given special attention to Extensive Research. Cards from both decks help Roland pay for it using as few resources as possible. Laboratory Assistant draws 2 cards, Mr. "Rook" can draw another 3 and with the help from Carolyn (Stand Together) he can draw another 2 (not even mentioning second copies). That should be enough to discount Extensive Research down to 3 to 0 resources.

  • Roland can use On the Hunt to search for enemies in order to feed his Bloodlust. This is very important to note to avoid unintentional horror issues from Bloodlust when searching with Mr. "Rook".

  • Roland has a lot of soak, but Carolyn doesn't. That means that Roland should be tanking the enemies most of the time, while having Carolyn as a support damage dealer and healer.

  • Practice Makes Perfect is excellent for boosting combat at critical times for Roland, whether you find a Take the Initiative or a Vicious Blow. Both can boost your skill to high levels while having the potential of the extra damage.
