Robert Castaigne

I completely misinterpreted the text on Robert's ability, so my review is quite misinformed.. I'll leave the original comment as maybe it will prevent someone else from making my mistake.


The ability feels quite different than the upgraded Robert Castaigne

This is also one of two level zero allies for rogue that adds ; the other being Lonnie Ritter

fighters tend to rely on more actions, to defeat enemies as compared to fighters with big damage numbers. This is another card to theoretically save actions.

How many actions do you save to gain what is virtually one more ammo? I suppose this depends on if you are stocking a lot of weapons with low ammo. You don't save as much if your weapons have a lot of ammo already. Keep in mind this ability is only for discarding one handed weapon which are typically lower damage (with one exception detailed later). The other benefit is if you are out of ammo, and haven't evaded the enemy to exhaust them, you might avoid an attack of opportunity if you can kill the enemy.

it's not bad with Dirty Fighting, when you are out of ammo on .41 Derringer maybe you can use that extra action to play the next firearm.

Best use might be one more use of Sawed-Off Shotgun with Well Connected and lots of resources. This can easily become big damage (imagine Jenny pulling her elder sign) Feel free to dabble with Mob Connections to bring it back, but since that is 2 resources to recur and 3 more to play the shotgun, you will need to watch your funds to keep Well Connected providing a good bonus.

With experience it is recommended to upgrade to Robert Castaigne as it has simpler combos and is less resource intensive.

In my opinion, if I have to choose one early ally to add I would favor choosing Lonnie and a Trench Coat or Heavy Furs for damage mitigation and other bonuses. Later I would consider the upgraded Robert Castaigne instead of his zero version.

You seem to have missed that Robert's discard effect says "from hand". You're not saving any ammo or getting any extra, this is just for if you dont have the resources to play your gun but still want to shoot it. — Spamamdorf · 5

Searching for Izzie

I know this is adding a review 3 years later..., however I tend to try out a Jenny deck whenever a new release is out to see what has changed. Considering we are heading into rotations, it might be a good idea to look at current legacy cards to review whether they can be revised and avoid future errata.

Even with newest card pool, I still rank this as one of the worst weaknesses. If I want to pass, I either need to build for basic investigations (no using lockpicks), have a friend that has high intellect, or add in Streetwise and/or Well Connected, which still require more time to setup compared to other investigators. It's especially bad in lower player counts where the loss of actions mean more, especially with the chance for failure. If this weakness was on what people regard as an S-Tier character I might not be as bothered, but I don't think Jenny is in danger of that. I say this as someone that really likes experimenting with Jenny's dunwich investigator versatility (5 non class cards).

To be clear the problem with this card is you spend actions to go to the location. You spend two actions to do a basic investigation. You may fail and then have to spend two more actions. You will likely need to raise your intellect stat to consider the attempt which means drawing the right cards and building enough money (the smallest of the issues). The best solution is a friend that might be in the area with a high intellect that somehow isn't busy. The only other card I can currently think of that is as problematic is Roland's Cover Up

I can think of multiple ways to "fix" the weakness that are thematic (IMO), but don't think this is the area for that kind of discussion.

I originally considered this a design fail from early in the games life, however the more recent advanced version, Searching for Izzie is also a problem.


I did figure out that if the weakness lands on a 2 shroud location and I have two Matchbox assets I can just succeed, but I don't want to be forced to build cluever Jenny losing two of my off-color choices, as part of her appeal is versatility to choose different build.

This is definitely a good choice for a cluever Jenny as those cards can support other investigators. If Scavenging is one of the off-collor choices, they even can be reused and re-equipped as fast actions with Joey "The Rat" Vigil, who I consider Jenny's better "signature card" when considering her ability to gain a resource.

Good Weather

I'm impressed after my initial plays with this card. It felt very strong in two player & I can only assume it would feel stronger in larger playgroups.

  • +2 to a chosen skill for EACH investigator for a whole turn regardless of location!
  • For 1 resource (and a fast action), that's really good. Especially when compared to similar cards (below).
  • It lasts through the upcoming Mythos phase!
  • At 2xp, lots of off-class survivors can take it. 2xp also buys all 3 copies!
  • Myriad! With 3 copies, you'll be seeing it often and it's easily recurable with Resourceful and especially Shrine of the Moirai.

It looks particularly interesting with agility as with this skill you can evade (obviously), investigate (with rogue events or with Lucius capacity) and fight (rogue events, Dirty fighting, British Bull dog, Ornate Bow, Hatchet, ...). Colt Vest Pocket

This card becomes top tier with Mob Connections especially if you also have Underworld Market. Since you can't normally discard assets on its own unless your slots are filled, this card discards itself. With Rogues, having additional actions isn't that difficult too.

Antediluvian Hymn

This might have gained a bit of a place of its own with Gloria's default signature weakness(es), though it's still a big stretch. Her triple weakness, Prophecy of the End, seems to serve to throttle her usage of her ability more than anything, since I can't imagine using her reaction when you already have two underneath you. As such, putting them on the bottom of a recently shuffled encounter deck sounds like a nice boost.

There are three ways to do this. Alyssa, Scroll of Secrets, and Antediluvian Hymn. So, you either need to get lucky with the former two or use them in tandem with another "look" card, which obviously means you're using more resources. That being said, those cards already do what Gloria wants to be doing, soo it's hardly an argument against them. Still, for the mere purpose of 'bottom'ing your weaknesses, this shows you the most encounter cards per card, I think.

All that being said, a bit of prudence and Gloria's signature card should already deal well enough with her weakness, I feel like. I highly doubt that an honestly slim chance of putting one or two copies of the weakness on the bottom would be worth it on its own. I can only imagine this whole shenanigan being actually worth it if you're going full support and/or don't have those other two "put on the bottom" cards in your deck and/or benefit from the curses as well.

P.S. Oh yeah, two problems that still exist: Some scenarios shuffle the encounter deck liberally, which totally defeats its main upside. This especially sucks when the reordering aspect, which is part of what you're paying for, is not that important for Gloria beyond preventing encounter combos, since she chooses the investigator order anyway. I still can't believe this costs 2 resources, too. Anyway, I'll keep coping until this gets taboo'ed, because damn, what a waste of a cool name and amazing art.
